Guv felicitates progressive woman farmers

GUWAHATI, Oct 30 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi felicitated progressive farmers Nabanita Das and Deepika Rabha in recognition of their inspiring role in the field of organic farming, at a function held at the Raj Bhavan today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the activities of Das and Rabha have the potential to change the scene of organic farming in Assam in myriad ways. He said their efforts have the cascading effect which can help in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s assertion of transforming Assam and other NE states into a hub of organic farming.

Prof Mukhi assured of all government help to both of them and directed the agriculture department and other line departments to help in their efforts in expanding the parameters of organic farming and their adequate marketing. He also asked his secretary to take up with the departments concerned the issues of fixing market linkage and right pricing.

The Governor asked them to motivate and inspire other farmers to take up the profession. He also asked them to take the benefits of government subsidies and replicate their agricultural practices in other parts of the State.

The Governor felicitated the woman farmers each with a traditional gamosa, a sarai, a japi, a citation and a cheque of Rs 10,000. It may be mentioned that both Das and Rabha had earlier been conferred the national honour of ideal farmers by the Government of India.

The function was also attended by Secretary to the Governor Sanjib Kumar Gohain Barua, officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, representatives from NGOs, agriculture department, along with relatives of Nabanita Das and Deepika Rabha.
