Guv asks NHPC to compensate affected people

ITANAGAR, May 18 - While emphasising that there must be a balance between development and environment when it comes to harnessing the State�s hydro potentials, Arunachal Governor JP Rajkhowa said that National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) must ensure adequate compensation to the affected people, including those living in downstream areas.

The power giant must also provide alternative livelihood, quality land, resettlement and other facilities to the affected people as per norms and guidelines of Government of India. He also said that agricultural fields, endangered species of flora and fauna, like orchids and black necked cranes should be preserved as well.

The Governor was interacting with NHPC Executive Director Shyamal Mitra, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here today to brief him on the NHPC projects in the State, further stressed that commissioning of projects must be absolutely according to schedule and there must be no cost or time over-run.
