GS Road case verdict on Dec 7

GUWAHATI, Dec 1 � The judgment of the July 9 GS Road molestation case would be pronounced on December 7 by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup.

The process of recording arguments for all the 15 accused, including prime accused Amarjyoti Kalita and journalist Gaurav Jyoti Neog started on November 29 and ended today.

The Special Investigation Team constituted to investigate the molestation case had filed the charge-sheet on September 4 naming 16 persons as accused. Of them, the case of a minor (accused) has been transferred to the Juvenile Justice Board.

�We have absolute faith in the judiciary and our client will definitely get justice. The judiciary must be congratulated for concluding the trial in a speedy manner,�,� said advocate Bijon Mahajan who advanced arguments on behalf of journalist Gaurav Jyoti Neog.

The other accused include Puspendra Das, Sikandar Basfor, Dhanraj Basfor, Nabajyoti Baruah, Nabajyoti Deka, Jitumoni Deka, Deepak Deb, Rubul Ali, Hafizuddin, Diganta Basumatary, Deba Das, Rupkanta Kalita and Ghanasyham Kumar Malik.

Altogether, 24 witnesses were examined during the course of the trial.

The July 9 GS Road case relates to the incident of molestation of a woman near a liquor bar by a group of miscreants on the GS Road. The incident was widely condemned forcing the Government to set up a special investigation team to book the culprits.
