GUWAHATI, Sept 8 - A delegation of the voluntary organisation Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG) today met the families of Ankita Barua and Dimpi Bora who were killed in a boat mishap on September 5 last.

The SGBG delegation was led by its vice-president and former MLA Ajoy Dutta.

The families of Ankita and Dimpi told the SGBG members that because of the failure of the government to provide a safe transport system for the people of North Guwahati, the people here are forced to travel in such an insecure manner by the dilapidated country boats for decades.

Both Ankita and Dimpi were brilliant students and they undertook the risk of being drowned by travelling by such boats to cross the Brahmaputra only because of their zeal to pursue their higher education in a reputed institution like Cotton University.

Members of both the grief-stricken families demanded an answer from the government as to when this ordeal of the people of North Guwahati would come to an end, said Satyen Doloi, SGBG general secretary.
