GUWAHATI, Oct 15 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the Government was making a concerted effort to arrest the price rise and ensure that farmers get remunerative price against their products.
�As far as small tea growers are concerned, I have asked the Tea Board to effectively put in place its price control mechanism,� Gogoi said during a press conference today.
�Be it tea, paddy, jute or rice, the State Government is committed to fetch the growers the best possible value of their products,� he stated.
Gogoi also informed that the Government has decided to set up a jute mill in Misamari.
PTI adds from Tezpur: Strong resentment is prevailing among the small tea growers of Assam following a downward trend of price of tea with the planters of the north bank of Brahmaputra suspending plucking of leaves.
Protesting they were being �deprived� of the prescribed price rate offered to major tea growers in the state, the small tea growers also strew over one lakh kg leaves plucked today on the NH-52 at Biswanath Chariali blocking it for two hours.
About three thousand small tea growers and their supporters blocked the road, Jitu Saikia general secretary of Sonitpur Small Tea Growers Association said..
