GUWAHATI, Nov 18 The All Assam Minorities Students Union (AAMSU) has called upon the State government not to harass innocent persons in the name of fighting against jihadi elements.

AAMSU city committee general secretary Minnatul Islam said that while there cannot be any compromise with regard to weeding out violent and extremist elements, the government needs to exercise caution so that innocent people are not harassed.

The student outfit alleged that 33 persons of the minority community were picked up by police on Saturday night and brought to the Dispur police station where they were harassed before being released on Sunday.
