GUWAHATI, July 27 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today told the Assembly that the State Government was extremely concerned over the State�s flood situation, and that it would leave no stone unturned to tide over the crisis and reach out to the flood-affected masses.
Sonowal said that the authorities concerned such as deputy commissioners and the various departments and agencies have been strictly instructed to work on a war footing to ensure rescue and relief to the affected.
�We will not hear any excuses for lapses on flood relief and rescue as funds have been made available to the deputy commissioners in advance. Earlier, lack of funds was often cited as a hindrance by deputy commissioners to take up flood relief exercises,� he said.
The Chief Minister also said that the Centre was taking the State�s flood situation seriously and that it would intervene in the desired manner. �I have talked to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and he has assured us of every possible help. A team of our MPs also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday in this regard,� he added.
Sonowal also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin of the four persons who have died in the floods till date. The amount is to be made available to the kin within a week, he asserted.
