Govt buildings develop cracks due to tremor

DIBRUGARH, Jan 4 - The 6.7 magnitude pre-dawn earthquake with epicenter in Manipur, which shook the region, caused damages to several government and private buildings here.

Structures of the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) � surgery, blood bank, medicine and basic science buildings besides Chabua Model Hospital have developed cracks. Further, the existing old cracks in the buildings of the District Transport Office and Borborooah Primary Health Centre have been substantially extended due to the earthquake. The inspections of the buildings were done by a team of engineers from the PWD department said Deepjyoti Hatikakoty, Project Officer, District Disaster Management Cell.

Although there have been reports of cracks being developed in few private residences and structures in the town, no official confirmation has been received so far. However, no casualty has been reported from the area till 3 pm, the Disaster Management official said.
