Govt acted on Barpeta incident: CM

GUWAHATI, June 29 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said that the State government had already taken action against those found involved in the Barpeta incident that took place on July 21 last year.

In a statement issued by Janasanyog, Gogoi said that a total of 11 cases were registered and 16 persons arrested. Moreover, the then Barpeta SP was transferred immediately. Gogoi also said that an inquiry commission, headed by retired Justice of Gauhati High Court SK Kar, had been constituted and the report is awaited.

Gogoi made this observation in response to the queries raised by some media persons about the incident during a press conference held here yesterday.
