GUWAHATI, July 14 Governor of Assam JB Patnaik on Thursday suggested that a statue of poet, novelist and dramatist Navakanta Barua or a memorial hall in his name should be set up either at Nagaon or Guwahati.

Releasing a book, Navakanta Baruar Gaan Aru Kabitar Sangraha on the occasion of the death anniversary of the poet-novelist, Patnaik said that though Navakanta Barua was a modern poet, the past was dear to him.

Although the poet floats in the sky and talks about the destruction of thousands of planets in the black hole of life, he is a poet of the earth and he loves this world, said the Governor, describing the poet as an optimist who was extremely hopeful of a new world to be born out of the fossil of the present world.

Calling the poet a great humanist whose creations could reach out to all crossing the boundary of Assam, Patnaik said that the poet will live forever through his contributions.
