GUWAHATI, Feb 26 - The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) in its 20th National Council Meet 2020 held in Guwahati recently resolved that Gorkhas in Assam should be recognised as an indigenous community to ensure their Constitutional and land rights.

The BGP also resolved to welcome the creation of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and expressed the faith that the land rights of the Gorkhas in the region will be ensured as in the BTR Accord both in the Tribal Belt and Block, and in other areas under BTR.

The council also called upon the governments at the Centre and in West Bengal to bring an early resolution to the long-pending demand of Gorkhaland with a permanent political solution. It also resolved to forward a mechanism to the Union Ministry of Defence and the relevant authorities to ease the issuing of Gorkha certificates across the country uniformly.
