Gogoi rejects blame for poll debacle

NEW DELHI, July 7 Citing the results of the panchayat polls, an assertive Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today countered his detractors in the party for blaming his government for the debacle in the Lok Sabha polls.

Replying to questions, the Chief Minister defended his governments performance. If our government was doing so badly, then how did we win the panchayat polls a year back? We also won the Guwahati Municipal elections, he added.

I have seen the 1977 and 1985 polls. We will win the 2016 election, Gogoi asserted.

At the hearing of the Antony Committee on Sunday, some Congressmen blamed the government for the partys LS poll debacle. Leaders told the committee that welfare schemes were not given due publicity or implemented, ministers had become arrogant and corrupt, leading to adverse reactions among the voters.

The Chief Minister, however, refused to take any questions on the revolt in the Congress Legislative Party (CLP). But he expressed confidence that the Congress would win the 2016 Assembly election.

Dont ask me who will lead, it could be X, Y or Z. But we are going to win in 2016, he said.
