Gogoi for Smart Villages

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that recasting rural landscape of the country is the need of the hour as India lives in rural areas.

In a statement here today, Chief Minister Gogoi said the Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre should give special emphasis on the rural areas by going in for Smart Villages in a big way than focussing on Smart Cities. I am more in favour of developing Smart Villages in which villagers can avail the urban amenities without moving to the cities. The country can make faster progress and prosperity if Smart Villages come up in a big way. Its the most effective way to bridge the rural-urban divide, said Gogoi, adding that former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalams concept Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) should be taken up on a mission mode.
