GUWAHATI, July 4 - The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is engaging 91 NGOs to cover the interior parts of the city for spraying disinfectants to contain spread of the novel coronavirus.
The GMC has been carrying out its disinfectant spraying operation in the city with the help of the State Fire and Emergency Services since March 24.
�The Corporation purchased 200 mist blowers and 20 agricultural spraying machines for spraying disinfectants ward-wise in the remote areas in all the six divisions under its jurisdiction with the help of 91 NGOs. The NGOs have been provided minimum incentives for this task. Sanitization is continuing simultaneously in all the six divisions covering each and every ward, lanes, bye-lanes, remote and backward areas, hilly terrain including the inaccessible areas using six fire tenders along with mini fire tenders and two Varun vehicles of Assam Police,� a source in GMC said.
�Apart from these areas, the GMC is also regularly sanitizing quarantine centres, home quarantine zones, Covid testing centres, containment zones and ambulances. Moreover, a special team has been constituted for sanitization drive to meet the public demands to sanitize more areas,� he added.
The Corporation is using a solution of sodium hypochlorite (0.05%), bleaching powder (16gm/10 litres of water) as prescribed by the Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup (Metro) district.
The GMC today sanitized eight Covid testing centres, four screening centres and 12 quarantine centres of the city.
Using fire tenders and Varun vehicles, the Corporation today covered Kamakhya hill area, South Sarania main road, Pub Sarania road, Gandhi Mandap road, Anil Nagar main road, Fancy Bazar, Chatribari, Panjabari main road and Sarusajai Stadium. Altogether 78 areas of the city were covered today by using mist blowers and agricultural spraying machines. The special team of GMC covered hotels, stadiums and several containment zones, a GMC statement stated.
The GMC is also carrying out fogging operation in government premises, public places and market areas. Uzanbazar, Khanapara veterinary field, Rehabari, Maniram Dewan Trade Centre and Sarusajai Sports Complex were covered today.
