GUWAHATI, Jan 21 - Rajesh Prasad, Principal Secretary and Agriculture Production Commissioner, today flagged off the first export consignment of organic fresh ginger and turmeric at a ceremony held here at the Momai Tamuli Barboruah Training Centre, Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam.
Two tonnes of fresh ginger and turmeric produced by Tetelia Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd, Kamrup, under the Mission for Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) was sent to Swaziland in southern Africa, in collaboration with Greencover Overseas, Guwahati, said an official statement. Tetelia Agro has received an order for 150 tonnes of organic fresh ginger and turmeric.
Prasad expressed satisfaction on the performance of this farmer producer company (FPC) where 414 farmers are working in 500 hectares of land. He appealed to all farmers to avail this opportunity to export their products with help from the department and earn remunerative prices.
A total of 15 FPCs under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana and 10 FPCs under MOVCDNER are functioning in different districts of Assam. Prasad also instructed departmental officials to form another 100 FPCs covering different districts of Assam in the coming days.
MS Manivannan, Secretary and Director of Agriculture, Assam, expressed hope that farmers will come forward to export different products of the State like red rice, black rice, spices, etc., after fulfilling the newly adopted agricultural export policies. Dr Pranab Kumar Mahanta, Joint Director (Horticulture), gave a brief presentation on the progress of MOVCDNER schemes in Assam.
