SIVASAGAR, Feb 21 - Nazira MLA and leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia inaugurated an RO Process Watwer Supply scheme at Geleki Lahongaon on February 18.
The meeting held on the occasion was presided over by Ratneswar Konwar. Among others, who addressed the meeting include Dr Hemaprabha Saikia, former State minister, Suchen Gogoi, Rtd teacher, Momi Saikia, president GP, Ranjana Saikia, former president, GP, Rajiv Sonowal and Jaijul Isllam, Excutive officers, PublicHealth, Rajen Barua, Bandana Saikia and Pronob Dutta.
Addressing the meeting, Debabrat Saikia said that over half of the population in India are still suffering from shortage of drinking water and, as a result, there is prevalence of diarrhoea, hepatitis etc., in our country. Saikia said that the RO plant built at a cost of Rs 12.5 lakh under Dr Manmohan Singh�s MPLAD fund, will benefit the people of the area and safe drinking water will be provided at half the market price from the project.
Referring to the BJP government�s claim that each household of India will have free access to safe drinking water by 2022 , Saikia said that Asian Development Bank has predicted that by 2030 only half of India�s population will have safe drinking water facilities.
