BARPETA, Sept 23 Miscreants decamped with valuables from the Ganakkuchi Satra here on Sunday night.

According to information available, burglars entered the Satra Bhojghar by breaking open the locked doors and took away gold worth approximately Rs five lakh and a cash amount of Rs 25,000 collected as pranamee.

Significantly, gold offered by the devotees in small quantities over the years was stored inside a strong locker which was broken open by the burglars.

It may be mentioned that several Satras and temples of the district have been targeted by the burglars during the last few years. Patbaushi, Baradi and Jania Satras have also faced similar situations in recent times. But it is a matter of regret that the culprits involved in the crime are still at large.

The people of the locality have demanded arrest of the culprits involved and provision of adequate security to the satras and temples of the district.
