NEW DELHI, Oct 29 � The political impasse continuing in Arunachal Pradesh is likely to be resolved on Monday at a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party to be held in Itanagar.
This was decided at a meeting chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi this evening with party observers. The meet, second in the day, was also attended by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin and State PCC chief Nabam Tuki.
According to sources, Gandhi has directed the three AICC observers to reach Itanagar by Monday and take part in the CLP meet convened specially to sort out the leadership issue.
Earlier, political uncertainty in Arunachal Pradesh continued, even as the Congress today clarified that Gamlin and Tuki have offered to quit.
In a day of fast developments, the Congress went into emergency mode. The party�s observers met Gandhi this morning when they briefed her about the political scenario prevailing in the State. The meeting was attended by the Congress
president�s political secretary, Ahmed Patel, Union Power Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Bijoy Krishna Handique and Dhaniram Shandil.
Though there were indications that both the Chief Minister and the PCC president might be asked to join the meeting, it did not happen and the meeting broke up after about 90 minutes.
Emerging from the meeting, Handique told newsmen that they had briefed the Congress president about every development in Arunachal Pradesh. Every minute detail was discussed.
AICC sources said that at the meeting last night, both the Chief Minister and Tuki, who is the PCC chief were asked to quit from their posts.
To the Congress leadership�s worry, both the warring sides have shown that they enjoy support of equal number of MLAs.
Sources said that the AICC is treading on the issue very cautiously because it wants to avoid a split in the party in a sensitive State like Arunachal Pradesh. Some of the MLAs pledging support to one of the leaders have even threatened to walk out of the Party, if their demand is not fulfilled.
