MANGALDAI, Jan 21 - Darrang Police busted an illegal gambling racket near Kharupetia leading to the arrest of eight gamblers of different ages and different nearby locations.
SP, Darrang Sreejith Thiraviam informed this correspondent that a police team led by DSP (DSB) Amit Kr Hojai on Saturday afternoon raided a public place near Balugaon market under Kharupetia Police Station and busted a gambling racket. The team nabbed eight gamblers out of whom five belong to Ghanasimalu village and one each to Kharupetia town, Niz Baruajhar and Mandalpara area respectively.
An amount of Rs 30,500.00 has also been seized from the gamblers. All the accused after being booked U/S 14 of the Assam Game and Betting Act 1970, on Sunday were remanded to judicial custody.
