SILCHAR, Aug 18 - 102-year-old Chandradhar Das, a resident of Borai Basti in Amraghat locality of Cachar district was anxiously waiting to step out of the detention camp here at the stroke of the 72nd Independence Day. But the absence of the Assistant Government Pleader (AGP) who failed to attend the Silchar Foreigners Tribunal (FT) 6 where the case was to be heard bitterly spoilt the hopes of freedom for the veteran on Tuesday.

According to sources, Das reached the court along with his daughter and was lying on the floor throughout the trial session. After almost two hours, tribunal judge Sunil Karmakar informed that the case could not be placed to be heard since the Assitant Government Pleader (AGP) could not attend the hearing. Das shall have to come again before the Tribunal on September 14 for the next hearing.

Meanwhile, Kamal Chakraborty, chief convenor of Unconditional Citizenship Demand Forum (UCDF) said after we approached the Cachar Deputy Commissioner Dr S Laxmanan, he informed that the AGP would be certainly present for the next hearing of the case. However, it is quite disappointing to see that despite repeated memorandums, the district administration was very lazy to initiate steps in this regard.
