AGARTALA, Dec 24 - Four cadres of banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have surrendered with arms and ammunition before Director General of Police (DGP) VS Yadav here today.
Yadav said the surrendered militants have deposited two AK-56 rifles, an AK bayonet, four magazines, 119 rounds of AK ammunition, a wireless handset and Myanmar currency (Kyat).
They have been identified as Ratham Kaloi of Ampi area in Gomati district, Joy Sadhan Jamatia of Killa in Gomati district, Madhu Ranjan Noatia of Shantirbazar in South Tripura and Kuklia Tripura of Karamcherra in Dhalai district.
�During interrogation, the surrendered cadres revealed that from November 2028 to January 2019 as many as 17 leaders and cadres, including three surrendered NLFT militants of Biswa Mohan faction, received special training at a KYKL camp located at Taga in Myanmar along with some cadres of other militant outfits of the Northeast,� Yadav said.
The DGP said the surrendered militants had stated that the struggle for independence of Tripura is totally farce. Moreover, the NLFT has been reeling under severe financial and organisational crisis, which influenced them to join the mainstream, the DGP added.
Meanwhile, the NLFT on Wednesday evening released three persons � Subhash Bhowmik, Subal Debnath and Ganapati Tripura � who were kidnapped from Ganganagar area in Dhalai district on December 8 when they were on their way to their workplace.
They are workers of National Project Construction Corporation Ltd (NPCC) engaged in border fencing at Maldapara village in Dalai district, under the jurisdiction of Ganganagar Police Station, about 140 km from here.
A group of six insurgents, armed with automatic weapons, had raided the construction site bordering Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Bangladesh and taken away the three workers to Bangladesh.
According to the police, the ultras were forced to release the abducted persons due to continuous operations by the security forces, which also mounted pressure on overground collaborators of the insurgent outfit.
However, another person identified as Litan Nath, who was kidnapped from the Damcherra area, still remains untraced. A police team even visited Assam to search for Litan but could not trace him. There have been reports that the abductors have demanded Rs 10 lakh for his safe release.
