Four child labourers rescued

JORHAT, Dec 7 - Four boys, suspected to be below 14 years of age, were rescued by a team of Labour Department officials, accompanied by policemen, from different work places here on Wednesday.

The Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) of Jorhat Ishanu Shah told the correspondent that during the drive three boys were rescued from town area while one was rescued from a construction site on the Rajabari outskirts. All the four are from different areas of the State.

Shah said that two boys were rescued from a restaurant while one from a fruit stall. The fourth one was found working as a labourer at the construction work going on for the National Institute of Design (NID) branch here. Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone of the NID on February 19, 2011.

The ALC said that medical examination of the four boys will be done at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital to determine their actual age. She said that the boys will be kept at a local shelter home run by a voluntary organisation as per the provision of the Child Labour Protection Act.

Shah said that cases will be registered in the court against the employers if the rescued boys� ages were found to be below 14.
