Legendary American carmaker Ford Motor Company�s Indian arm Ford India has launched the iconic Mustang GT in India at price Rs. 65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The launch took place at an event in the Buddh International Circuit, on Tuesday.
First introduced in 1964 in the US, the Mustang has a fifty-two-year-old classical history. The sixth generation Mustang GT, now launched in India, is the first to feature a Right Hand Drive (RHD configuration, as it has been historically made with Left Hand Drive (LHD) configuration. The muscle car has been long awaited in India and the interests between customers and auto enthusiasts peaked, after it was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February.
Incidentally, only the top-spec model, in a single variant, with the 5.0-litre, Ti-VCT, V8 engine that develops a massive 401 PS of power and 515 Nm of torque has been launched in India. This petrol engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Ford leaves no stone unturned to bring out a superb, eye-catchy design. The conventional classical look of the 60s� Mustang has been tweaked to make it super-sexy, sleek and posh as contemporary sports cars must be.
So, the backward sloping roof of the fastback and the short-tail disposition, along with the long hood of the Ford Mustang GT, all make the muscle car look very attractive. Despite the sloping hood, the front fascia and the hood boast of a quite bold, upright, a bit daring and slightly aggressive appearance from up close.
On the exterior, the Mustang GT gets LED headlamps, fog lamps and vertically positioned LED strip in the rear lights, as in the original Mustang. Safety, comfort and interactive features are a plenty with Cruise Control, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), etc.
The infotainment features are more interactive and gadgety with the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Ford�s uniquely patented SYNC 3 technology, tracking app that monitors acceleration timing, etc. The information from the built-in app is then displayed on the 4.2-inch LCD display touchscreen infotainment system.
As the classic sports car is expected to be sold in good numbers in the coming days, competition to the Mustang GT will be from the Audi TT, Mercedes Benz SLK350 and the BMW Z4.
