Focus on textbooks, not Facebook: Poet

SIVASAGAR, Aug 26 - Today�s girls do not read books, journals and magazines but they spend a lot of time on Facebook, which is a not a healthy sign for the society. This was observed by Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, an acclaimed poet and former Professor of Assamese in Dibrugarh University.

Addressing the freshers� social at Sivasagar Girls� College on Friday, Dr Hazarika said books are great company that can shed light in the darkest times. She also said beauty was not just in the physical appearance but a combination of one�s true inner self, attitude and innocence.

Dr Prafulla Kalita, Principal of Sibsagar College, said every student must strive hard to transform his or her dreams into reality, while Manoj Borthakur, a freelance journalist, said the present generation was fortunate enough to be born in a fantastic world which was moving with meteoric speed.

Prof Anu Sarmah, Principal in-charge, Sivasagar Girls� College, presided over the meeting. The meeting was also addressed by Vice-Principal Dr Naznin Ahmed. The senior students presented a cultural programme to greet the new students.
