Floodwaters submerge several low-lying areas in Darrang

MANGALDAI, May 26 - The water levels of all major rivers in Darrang district are rising due to incessant rainfall across the State. Several low-lying riverine areas of the district have been submerged by rising waters, affecting normal life there.

According to a report issued by the district disaster management authority on Tuesday afternoon, altogether 17 villages � 16 from Dalgaon revenue circle and one from Mangaldai revenue circle � have so far been hit by floods in the district.

Nearly 850 people, more than 5,500 livestock and around 93 hectares of cropland in the district have been affected by the current wave of floods.

No relief camps have been set up and no relief has been distributed so far in the district.

Meanwhile, water levels of all the major rivers including the Brahmaputra are on the rise.

However, water levels of Noa and Saktola rivers are falling.
