FISHFED lays stress on hygienic marketing

GUWAHATI, Jan 12 - The Assam Apex Cooperative Fish Marketing & Processing Federation Ltd (FISHFED), a state-level cooperative federation of primary fishery and pisciculture societies of Assam under the Department of Fisheries is laying stress on hygienic fish marketing in Guwahati.

To maintain the hygienic condition at the retail booths under FISHFED, aprons, caps, hand gloves and other hygienic equipment were distributed to people involved in marketing, at a brief function organised on January 10 at the main marketing outlet at Rupnagar, stated a press release.

At present, there are 134 active cooperatives functional under FISHFED, covering 23,461 individual members.

FISHFED managing director Dr Dhruba Jyoti Sharma said five hygienic retail fish outlets are currently functioning in Guwahati and two will be launched at Silchar and Nagaon soon. FISHFED has also started home delivery and accepts order for weddings and other functions online on the website � www.fishfedassam.org.

FISHFED has also introduced environment friendly 51-micron plastic bags for customers.

Addressing the distribution ceremony of hygienic equipment, Minister of Fisheries Parimal Suklabaidya urged the employees to be more proactive to maintain the hygienic condition of fish selling booths.
