First Int�l Sankardeva Festival from Jan 2

GUWAHATI, Dec 21 - The First International Srimanta Sankardeva Festival, 2016 will start from January 2 next at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here.

The 8-day festival is planned to showcase and promote the contributions and achievements of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, the 15th century Vaishnavite saint of the State in the international arena, said an official press release here today.

An international level seminar will be held on the theme, �The Bhakti Movement in India with special reference to Srimanta Sankardeva�. Research papers on the subject have been invited from scholars, faculties and students of universities and colleges.

A group from France will perform Ankiya Bhaona Parijat Haran in French language. A traditional fair along with a food mela, will also be part of the event.

Surjya Hazarika, vice chairman and Narayan Konwar, secretary, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, also launched a website of the Kalakshetra on December 19, 2015.
