Fire breaks out in gas pipe

DIBRUGARH, Jan 25 - A huge fire broke out after an underground gas pipe was damaged while a drain was being dug at Chiring Chapori near Goshala, causing a hue and cry in the neighbourhood. Fire tenders were pressed into service but they were unsuccessful in dousing the inferno.

The fire emanating from the damaged gas pipeline was later doused after the site was covered with soil from nearby areas with the use of excavators.

It needs to be mentioned here that the city is experiencing frequent abrupt halt in the supply of piped cooking gas due to haphazard digging of drains by PWD contractors. The Convoy Road is under reconstruction for the past four years, causing serious hardships to the people at large. Telecom facilities have also been badly affected.
