Female voters outnumber men in Kamrup Metro

GUWAHATI, Nov 19 - Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu today said that compared to male voters, the number of female voters is higher in all the constituencies of the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) falling under Kamrup Metropolitan district.

State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar on Wednesday issued a notification announcing that election to the 36-seat Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC) would be held on December 17.

Pegu said that a total of 39,820 female voters and 38,360 male voters will exercise their franchise in the six constituencies of TAC falling under Kamrup (Metro) district. The six constituencies are No. 26-Dimoria, No. 32-Digaru, No. 33-Khetri, No. 34-Sonapur, No. 35-Ampri and No. 36-Phong-Ari.

�A total of 78180 voters will cast their votes at 100 polling stations in the six constituencies of the district. Sonapur constituency has the highest voters with 17,304. The number of female voters is also the highest in Sonapur constituency with 8,782. The number of male voters in the constituency is 8,522,� the DC said.

�The last date for filing nominations is November 25 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on November 26. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is November 28 and the list of contesting candidates will be announced on the same day. The date of counting of votes is December 19. Re-poll (if necessary) will be held on December 18,� Pegu added.

The poll process in the constituencies falling under Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai and Kamrup Metro districts has begun right from announcement of the election date.

�The administration is fully prepared to ensure smooth conduct of the polls. Candidates or political parties will have to take prior permission from the district administration to organise any election-related meetings or road shows. No candidate or party will be allowed to carry out campaigns at religious places,� DC Pegu further said.

The venue for submission of nomination papers is the DC�s office. Sonaram Higher Secondary School at Bharalumukh will be the venue for distribution and receipt of polling materials and counting of votes.
