NAGAON, Feb 16 - Nagaon was tense for the second day today following the shocking suicide incident of a class X student at Nagaon Nabarup Jatiya Vidyapith, with the father of the student claiming that his son was beaten to death.
The father of the deceased student, Dulal Chandra Bora has filed an FIR at Nagaon Sadar police station. Nagaon Police also registered another case and began preliminary investigation, sources said.
In the FIR, the bereaved father alleged that it was a murder instead of a mere case of suicide and stated in the FIR that his son was thrashed severely by the incharge principal of the institution, Munindra Saikia inside the principal�s chamber itself till he died. The chamber was kept locked from inside when the child was being beaten, the FIR charged and thereafter his body was hung from a rod of the roof of the school building, it alleged.
According to sources, soon after the body of the student was brought to his home situated at Chutiagaon village last night after post mortem, hundreds of villagers came out on the street and staged a massive protest against the incident near Uriagaon bypass chariali. The agitators went on rampage and blocked the NH 37 for several hours demanding immediate arrest of the school authorities. The protestors burnt tyres also on the highway.
Meanwhile, top police officials of Nagaon district police administration rushed to the spot and to bring the situation under control, the protesters were baton charged.
When the police assured the agitators that effective and adequate justice will be provided, the protesters postponed their protest. During the protest, they claimed that it was not a suicide but a case of murder.
It may be mentioned further that after registration of the case at Nagaon police station, the in charge principal, Munindra Saikia switched off his mobile phone and was absconding till the filing of this report.
