Farmers urged to set up seed villages

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Assam State Seeds Certification Agency (ASSCA) has taken steps to encourage farmers to establish seed villages in different districts of Assam.

During the current year (2016-17), a total of 201 seed villages have been established in 16 different districts of Assam by the ASSCA, said an official statement.

Under this programme, 440 quintals of foundation seeds of mustard were distributed among the farmers for covering 4,402 hectares of land.

The seed varieties included under this programme are TS-36, TS-38 and JD-6.

Farmers involved in this programme will produce reliable certified seeds which will be sold to the needy farmers with the support of ASSCA through pre-designated traders. Around 53,000 quintals of certified seeds will be produced under this programme, it said.
