NAGAON, April 6 - The Congress candidate of Barhampur LAC and his supporters tried to create an unruly situation in different parts of the constituency, alleged former MP and wife of former CM PK Mahanta, Dr Joyshree Goswami Mahanta. She is assisting her husband in poll campaigning.

Addressing a press conference at her Nagaon residence, the MP said that in past few days, the Congress candidate and his supporters are trying to disturb the campaign meetings of Mahanta.

Citing one incident, the former MP said that on April 3 when she was holding a meeting with party workers at Balijuri in the evening, Congress candidate Suresh Bora with his supporters arrived at the spot and allegedly threatened them. They allegedly tried to create ruckus in the meeting where about 40 locals joined the AGP.

After the meeting, she was leaving the place in her car, the Congress activists detained the vehicle for more than an hour, she added.

She allegedly faced the same disturbance at Katoni Arjuntol village where a group led by Bidyut Bora, Jamir Ahmed and Ritul Ahmed tried to disturb their campaign on March 27 in Bengena Aati, Halooah Gaon, Chalchali, Musalman Gaon and in some other places.

She added that she has filed a complaint to the EC and district authority in this regard.

According to Goswami Mahanta, the wind is in favour of the AGP in Barhampur LAC and that is why Congress is trying to apply force on voters.
