Erosion takes serious turn

MORIGAON, June 25 - The Brahmaputra�s erosion has taken a serious turn in Bhuragaon and Lahorighat revenue circles in Morigaon district during the last couple of days rendering 70 families homeless.

According to information received, the embankment of the Brahmaputra was threatened at Mikirgaon point even as surging waters of the river entered Baralimari village under Bhuragaon revenue circle. The old Baralimari market�s existence is now threatened. About 270 hectares of jute and sugarcane cultivation have been completely devastated.

The affected homeless people have taken shelter on nearby highlands.
