JALUKBARI, May 17 - Eight endangered vultures were released near the Rani Reserve Forest yesterday. The Rani Vulture Breeding and Protection Centre assisted by the Rani forest office released seven Himalayan griffon vultures and one cinereous vulture, which were rescued from Nalbari, Kuruwa range and Kukurmara.
These endangered vultures were affected due to consumption of poison-infested animal carcasses. There has been a sharp decline in their numbers not only in the State, but across the country.
The birds were rescued by forest staff with the help of local villagers. The surviving vultures were kept under observation and treated at the Rani Vulture Breeding and Protection Centre under the care of Dr Porag Deuri and Dr Sachin Rana De.
