Education key to development: CM

GUWAHATI, Dec 9 � �Education must be induced for proper development of the society,� said Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Pan IIT Global Conference 2012 held at Science City Auditorium in Kolkata today.

Delivering the keynote address, Gogoi laid stress on education in all spheres of life. Proper education should be implemented from the grassroots� level,� he said.

Gogoi exhorted upon the IITians to work for the development of society. �The wisdom and knowledge of IITians have to be utilized for the betterment of the society,� he said.

The Chief Minister also opined that technical knowledge of IITians has to be duly provided without which social development would come to a standstill.

�The Government of Assam is currently taking several steps to utilize the knowledge of technocrats like IITians and other knowledgeable people who have the capability to contribute towards the proper development of the State,� he added.

The conference was attended, among others, by IIT alumni.

Later, Gogoi, while replying to a volley of questions posed by the local mediapersons regarding immigration of refugees in North Bengal due to recent ethnic problem in Assam, said his Government would initiate steps �if provided with proper information�.

The Chief Minister said the State Government has taken various steps to deal firmly with terrorism and other terror tactics.

�The State Government has taken a firm stand against the anti-national elements, and has overcome many barriers on the way. With the help and support of the people of the State, such problems will be reduced to a great extent,� he said.
