Dr Kalam�s 84th birthday celebrated

GUWAHATI, Oct 17 - The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Paschim Boragaon, celebrated the 84th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on Friday.

Forty school students from Pragjyotish Higher Secondary School attended the function on the invitation of IASST.

Prof KM Pathak, former vice chancellor of Tezpur University and former chairman, IASST Council, Prof NN Das, former director IASST, Prof Joyanti Chutia, former director IASST and emeritus scientist, Dr MK Kalita, former registrar and former director (i/c), IASST were present as invited dignitaries on the occasion.

The invited dignitaries shared their experiences about the visit of Dr Kalam to the institute, once during 2004 as President of India and next on 2012 after his tenure. They recollected his interest, enthusiasm and motivation to the institute to inspire it to its present status.

The programme continued with video display of the life of Dr Kalam and his two visits to IASST. Students from the invited school and some members of IASST also spoke on the occasion.
