Doomdooma town faces erosion threat

DOOMDOOMA, July 1 - The Dibru river after creating flood havoc across ward no. � 1, 2, 8, 9 and 10 of Doomdooma town, has now started eroding its banks at several places.

The erosion has taken a serious turn at the Dolong Ghat area of the Old AT Road of Ward No - 1 of Doomdooma town since Tuesday morning.

Already a large tract of land of the area has been submerged by the river. Altogether 12 families of the area have been badly affected by the erosion. Banana trees, betelnut trees, kitchen gardens along with the sanitary tanks of these families have already been submerged by the river.

The houses of Tunu Das, Baloram Das, Bhadreswar Das, Lily Das, Promila Das, Barisha Das, Patoi Das, Punnya Das, Sarupuna Das, Punil Das and Rupa Das are under threat.�It is apprehended that if the situation continues, the devastation will be much more.

The officials of Doomdooma Municipal Board and Mulendra Moran, the representative of the local MP Pradan Baruah visited the erosion site on Tuesday and took stock of the situation. Later, the MP�s representative told mediapersons that steps have already been initiated to check erosion.
