GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - Diwali, the festival of lights and Kali puja were celebrated across the State along with rest of the country with great fanfare. Along with traditional practice of lighting earthen lamps to illuminate the dark night of Amawasya, buildings and campuses illuminated with electric lights created a perfect festive environment.

Despite the skyrocketing prices of firecrackers, people indulged in merrymaking bursting high decibel crackers.

The two-day festival is being celebrated in Guwahati with much pomp and gaiety. Lamp-lighting and crackers-bursting would continue tomorrow as well. Sparkling buildings of the city competed with each other, with diwali enthusiasts coming out on the streets for bursting firecrackers.

However, despite the appeal from authorities as well as NGOs to avoid some restricted zones, like hospitals, etc., few cared about the inconvenience caused to others, specially elders, patients among others, due to high sounding crackers.
