GUWAHATI, Nov 16 � The Kamrup Metro district administration has assured the Indian Railways of all assistance for the work on the national project at the Byrnihat-Tetelia section.
A team of district administration officials led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury today visited Sonapur and held a discussion with the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials as well as officials from the Sonapur Revenue Circle, said an official statement.
The team inspected the various locations through which the planned railway line will pass.
The project will have a length of 21.5 km and there will be two long tunnels, six major bridges and 47 minor bridges in the section. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2017 and will be the second railway line to connect Meghalaya, after the recently-launched Dudhnoi-Mendipathar section.
Afterwards, it is planned to extend the proposed line to Shillong. Expressing satisfaction about the progress of the project, Choudhury directed the Sonapur Circle Officer to take a proactive stand with regard to issues pertaining to land acquisition for the project.
