GUWAHATI, Oct 5 With only about a week remaining for the formal withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from it, the North East region of the country has so far recorded deficit monsoon rainfall. The normal date of withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon from the NE region is October 15. Already the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from several parts of the country.

According to H Pathak, Deputy Director General of the RMC, Assam reported till September 30 six per cent deficit rainfall, while Arunachal Pradesh reported 22 per cent deficit rainfall during the period.

Manipur reported 54 per cent deficit rainfall during the period, while Meghalaya reported 36 per cent deficit rainfall, Mizoram reported only two per cent deficit rainfall, Nagaland reported 20 per cent deficit rainfall and Tripura reported 19 per cent deficit rainfall, Pathak said. However, slightly over or below 19 per cent of normal rainfall is regarded to be the normal.
