GUWAHATI, July 17 � The Kamrup Metro district administration today issued a deadline of two days for removal of all illegally-constructed walls, slabs and other structures over drains and streams at Nabin Nagar locality.
This came after Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner (in-charge) of Kamrup Metro visited the locality today along with other civic officials.
Angamuthu said many local residents complained to him about such illegal structures and constructions and pointed out that such structures were hindering the flow of rain-water from the locality and causing artificial flood.
He added that if the owners fail to demolish the illegal slabs and walls within two days, then the district administration will take up the job of clearing them.
His visit to Nabin Nagar locality came a day after Angamuthu visited another flood-prone and low-lying locality of Anil Nagar, where work on clearing drains, streams and rivulets have been taken up.
Meanwhile, the district administration has also decided to open a page �Flood Free Guwahati� at social networking site �Facebook� where latest actions taken to prevent flood in the city would be updated. People could also express their views on the subject on the Facebook page. An official has been deployed for maintenance of the page, sources at the district administration said.
In the meantime, the anti-encroachment drive in the city completed 18 days today with many illegal constructions cleared along Bahini river, including eight houses and one boundary wall, among others.
Besides, work for cleaning of the Borsola Beel has also started from today.
Staff from Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted inspections at Beltola and Six Mile and seized a huge number of illegal polythene bags of below 40 microns. Along with that Rs 11,000 was collected as fines from 22 shops and commercial establishments which had not complied with the directive to place dustbins outside their premises.
