GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will stage a demonstration in the city on August 27 in protest against the Central and State governments over rising prices of essential commodities and �anti- labour policies�.
In a press release here today, the CPM said that since the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance Government assumed office at the Centre, rise in prices of essential commodities has become a common feature, making life miserable for the common people. The party pointed out that the skyrocketing price of onion is one such example and the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Minister Nazrul Islam recently commented that onion price may soar up to Rs 100 a kilogram.
At the same time, the CPM alleged that the Assam government also failed to take any effective step to control the prices of essential commodities. Though the prices of all essential commodities are increasing alarmingly, the farmers are not getting due prices and the government is silent on the issue, the CPM alleged.
The CPM further alleged that the State and Central governments totally failed to strengthen the public distribution system to provide the much needed relief to the common people in the face of soaring prices of essential commodities. Moreover, corruption at various levels has also added to the increase in the prices of the essential commodities, the party alleged.
