GUWAHATI, Nov 12 � Raju Baruah alias Hitesh Kalita, the self-style deputy commander-in-chief of the banned ULFA was today granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in connection with Special Operation Unit(SOU) police station case number 1 of 1995 registered U/S 120(B)/121(A)/122/121 IPC read with Sec 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The Court order stated that the accused will be granted bail on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 25,000 with two local sureties of the like amount, of whom one should be Government servant.
The Court also said that the petitioner shall appear before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (CJM) once in a week and not leave the Kamrup district without prior permission of the CJM, Kamrup, informed advocate Bijon Mahajan and advocate Arshad Choudhury who appeared on behalf of the accused.
Earlier, advocate Bijon Mahajan submitted before the Court that the peace process between the banned outfit and the Government is going on and presence of the petitioner is necessary.
Raju Baruah, who was arrested along with self style ULFA chairman from Bangladesh, has secured bail in other cases of penal offence, except the three TADA cases, the judgment on which are still awaited.
