Convocation of Central Agri University held

IMPHAL, Jan 10 - The fourth Convocation of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal was held here today.

On the occasion, Dr. Najma A. Heptulla and Chancellor of the CAU, Imphal Dr. S. Ayyappan graced as chief guest and president respectively.

Addressing the convocation, Manipur Governor Dr Najma A Heptulla said that agriculture is the biggest private sector economic activity in the country. �We must move from 3Ps (public-private-partnership) to 4Ps that is, public-private-producer-partnership,� she said, adding, �As farmers are the main stakeholders in agriculture, they must be involved in all concerned decision making processes�.

She also stated that farmers should be looked at as �agri-preneurs� who interact with corporate entrepreneurs, needing business models to be worked out to provide win-win options.

The Governor also stated that the North East should be developed as an exclusive economic zone for organic products.

She said Central Agricultural University, Imphal has spearheaded agricultural education in the region for the last 25 years and made significant contributions in research and technology development and wished CAU for more production and productivity in the coming days.
