Cong forges ahead in Council polls

GUWAHATI, June 10 � The Congress party (INC) forged ahead in the polls to the Tiwa, Thengal Kachari and Deori Autonomous Councils, the results of which were declared today. In the Tiwa council polls, the Congress bagged seven out ten seats in Morigaon district the results of which were out till 8 this evening. The counting for nine other seats of the district was going on till the time of filing this report.

The Congress registered an even better showing in the Thengal Kachari council polls by winning nine out of ten seats in Jorhat district.

The Congress also claimed the two Deori council seats of Jorhat district.

Our Jagiroad Correspondent adds: The Congress today swept the polls to the Tiwa Autonomous Council by bagging seven out of ten constituencies results of which were declared till 8 this evening in Morigaon district. Counting for another nine constituencies going on till the time of filing this report.

In No 12 Nakhola council constituency, Congress candidate Deba Bordoloi defeated his nearest Independent rival Santu Bordoloi by a margin of 795 votes, while Congress candidate and former Chief Executive Member Rama Kanta Deori defeated Independent candidate, Sumeswar Deori by a margin of 1288 votes in No 18 Charhpuria-Sabukdhar council constituency.

In No 4 Konwargaon, Jiban Ch Konwar (Independent) defeated Congress candidate Ananta Deori by a margin of 133 votes while Manorama Bordoloi of Congress defeated AGP candidate Minakshi Bordoloi by a margin of 336 votes in No 8 Ghagua.

Lalita Pator (Independent) defeated Independent candidate Aruna Pator by only 46 votes in No 2 Borangani.

Bipin Bordoloi of Congress defeated Anup Pator (Independent) by a margin of 333 votes in No 1 Jamadari while in No 3 Bhurbandha, Congress candidate Nitul Konwar defeated Sumeswar Bordoloi of AGP by 650 votes.

In No 7- Gormari constituency, Dimbeswar Bordoloi of AGP defeated Congress candidate Joyballav Bordoloi by a margin of 237 votes while Dipali Boro of Congress defeated Bijoy Lakshmi Daimary of AGP by 405 votes in No 11- Junbeel.

Khiren Bordoloi of Congress defeated Junti Pator of AGP by a margin of 309 votes in No 17- Bhumuraguri council Constituency.

Our Jorhat Correspondent adds: The Congress (INC) has won 9 out of the 10 seats in the Thengal Kachari Autonomus Council (TKAC) polls in Jorhat the results of which declared today.

The victorious Congress candidates were Parthapratim Saikia in Borhola, Atul Bora in Madhapur, Dinanath Hazarika in Phulbari, Pratap Kachari in Dihingia, Prafulla Saikia in Titabor, Mina Saikia in Samoguri, Kumud Kachari in Boruajan, Puneswar Saikia in Jalukanibari and Bhim Hazarika in Tamulbari constituency. The lone independent candidate won in the autonomus council polls is Jitul Kachari of Nagabat constituency.

Although there were 3 AGP and 4 CPI candidates in the fray, none was able to win the in the elections held on June 7.

On the other hand, both the seats of Deori Autonomous Council polls in Jorhat district went to the Congress (INC) candidates. Rup Kumar Deori won in Majuli and Nabanita Deori won in Jorhat constituency.
