SILCHAR, Feb 29 - The 115th annual general meeting of Surma Valley Branch of Indian Tea Association witnessed serious concerns raised over the slump in tea production due to environmental factors and frequent loadshedding.
Anwar Hussain Choudhury, Commissioner of Barak Valley & Hills Division, the chief guest of the meeting said �if the tea plantation industry is to survive in the coming days. Tea gardens should devise ways and means to enhance production keeping in view the increasing global temperature.� He emphasised on the increase in the volume of tea production in the tea gardens of Barak Valley.
Among those present in the meeting were BP Chaliha, secretary of Surma Valley Branch of the Indian Tea Association and Jawahar Choudhury, former president of the branch.
