Concern over Mallya episode

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, March 12 - Senior journalist and president of Guwahati Senior Citizens Association, DN Chakravartty has expressed shock at the lackadaisical attitude of the legal and financial authorities of the country in allowing new financial monster Vijay Mallya to stealthily leave Indian shores seeking shelter in Britain.

He voiced surprise that the banks which often refuse a Rs 100-cheque signed by an old customer only for a minor difference in the signature, went out of their way in placating a financial fraud like Mallya.

Mentioning the tragic experiences of young unemployed persons, farmers and small traders who are harassed constantly for non-clearance of dues, Chakravartty questioned how Mallya could manage to escape the notice of the banking authorities while he had been chronically failing to repay his dues.
