Colonel injured as jawan fires

IMPHAL, Jan 8 - A colonel-rank officer of Assam Rifles was today injured when a jawan opened fire at a camp at Sendra near Loktak Lake in Manipur, army officials said.

The bullets fired by the jawan hit a hand and leg of Colonel Neeraj. The officials said the jawan was overpowered by others present there.

It was not immediately known what provoked the jawan to fire, they said. The injured colonel was taken to hospital where he was operated. His condition is stated to be stable. � PTI
