SHILLONG, Jan 28 - A cold wave condition is prevailing over East Khasi Hills district and its neighborhood, which has suddenly brought down the minimum temperature close to zero degree Celsius again over the past few days.
The minimum temperature was zero degree Celsius�on Saturday�and today it rose a little and the minimum temperature was 0.7 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature of the day was 13.4 degree Celsius.
During the past few mornings, the grounds were covered with frost all over the state and in most parts of the district, although the days were sunny.
�The cold wave condition is likely to prevail over East Khasi Hills district and its neighbourhood for the next few days. There would be ground frost in isolated places in the district,� Met officials said.
The weather condition improved a bit after the capital went though the coldest day in 28 years on January 8 when the temperature went down to (-) 0.7 degree Celsius.
However, the officials said the sudden cold wave is due to a cyclonic circulation over East Khasi Hills and its neighbourhood. The cyclonic circulation has swept the state with icy cold wind during most part of the day, while bringing down the temperature.
