CM apprises Shah of Mizoram border situation

GUWAHATI, Nov 7 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah over telephone today apprising him of the situation at the Assam-Mizoram border and steps taken by the State government.

This comes amid tension along the inter-state border with miscreants bombing a school at Upper Painom village near Hawaithang in Cachar district around Friday midnight. There was, however, no casualty.

Sonowal sought necessary steps by the Central government to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas. He assured Shah that the State government would follow the Centre�s directives in managing the situation.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the current situation of Assam-Mizoram border at a meeting held at Janata Bhawan here today. Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah apprised the Chief Minister of the present situation there, while DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta informed about the steps taken for keeping law and order situation in control.

The Chief Minister directed the top officials to maintain peaceful environment and keep brotherhood and harmony intact at the Assam-Mizoram border areas.
